Ponniyin Selvan - a brief insight to the work
The novel deals with the intrigues, plots and subplots that sorround
the Chola King Sundara Cholan and his children Aditha Karikaalan - the crown prince, his
younger brother Arulmozhi Varman and their sister Kundavai.

The serialised novel by the Late Kalki has now been
adapted into a play by E. Kumaravel.
The play's narrative, as with the novel, is seen through the eyes of
Vallavaraiyan Vandhiya-t-Thévan, who is carrying messages from Karikaalan to Kundavai and
eventually Arulmozhi. The play moves along the same
lines as the novel and as
far as possible the dialogues have been kept faithful to Kalki's original.
The play is being staged for the first time ever, anywhere in the
world.

Magic Lantern performed excerpts from the play on
the 26th March - which was also the World Theatre Day - as a show of work-in-progress, to specially
invited audience, and invited discussions at the end of the session.
